About This Trip

The fantastic country of Turkey features wonderful beach resorts, sparkling blue seas, never-ending sunshine and a staggeringly beautiful coastline. It is also a land with magnificent past, and everywhere you turn during your holiday in Turkey you stumble across relics of ancient civilizations. Ancient, modern, and infused by the exotic, Turkey holiday deals offer a great escape from the ordinary.

There is something for everyone, whether it is lazing on the beach or scuba diving, playing golf or haggling for souvenirs, exploring a quiet hilltop village or dancing the night away in bustling cosmopolitan resort. There is a wide range of accommodation available, including active resort hotels, family, spas and sport hotels. This vibrant eastern Mediterranean country is fast becoming our best-loved holiday destination.

Turkey holidays offer a refreshing east-meets-west blend of culture, cuisine and color – with a climate that’s hard to beat, too. Straddling two continents, and centuries of civilization, Turkey has more ancient monuments and world heritage sites than even Greece. Yet this is a country firmly looking forward – determined to show that Turkey holidays offer the most tempting range of good value resorts and comfortable, well looked after bargain accommodation.

Weather

Although Turkey is situated in a geographical location where climatic conditions are quite temperate, the diverse nature of the landscape, and the existence in particular of the mountains that run parallel to the coasts, result in significant differences in climatic conditions from one region to the other.

Season and Climate in Turkey Turkey is a year-round destination depending on your itinerary. Although the tourist “high season” (with associated higher rates) is from mid-June through mid-September, Spring and Fall are the best seasons to travel. The sun is warm and skies are generally clear. You can expect mild to warm temperatures and some rain during this time.

Places to Visit:

Since most forts and palaces in Istanbul are built on the riverside, it is advisable to start your sightseeing with a Cruise tour that lasts for about 2 hours and covers the important destinations in the city. The cruise first takes you to the Blue Mosque. Also called Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, the mosque is known for its overwhelming size, majesty and splendour and remains to be the most popular tourist attraction in Istanbul. Hagia Sofia is another major monument and sightseeing destination in the city. Once a mosque, it is now converted into a Church and is famous for its exceptional architecture, considering that it is one of the largest unsupported domes in the world.

Topkapi Palace is a good example of Ottoman architecture and contains large collections of porcelain, robes, weapons, Islamic calligraphic manuscripts and murals. The palace served as the royal residence of the Ottoman Sultans and contains holy relics including Prophet Muhammad’s cloak and sword. Hippodrome is the city centre of Istanbul and is usually associated with Constantinople’s days of glory. After marvelling at the historical richness of Turkey, indulging into shopping at Taksim Square and Grand Bazaar is a good idea.

Shopping

As much as it is essential to visit the Blue mosque in Istanbul, exploring the renowned Grand Bazaar is equally important for any tourist who visits the city. Turkey’s largest covered market, Grand Bazaar is famous for its beautiful Turkish carpets, glazed tiles, porcelain, copper and brassware, leather and silk. While the high prices may put you off initially, it is a good place to hone your bargaining skills for a better deal. Taksim Square is another major shopping destination for tourists and the natives alike.

Fashion is a booming industry in Istanbul with a whole generation of Turkish designers emerging over the past decade. Istanbul is considered to be a jewellery-lover’s paradise and is also famous for its handmade shoes, kaftans, hand-woven rugs, ceramic pomegranates, lamps and ethnic motifs.

Istanbul’s Spice Market is another famous market with a collection of spices, teas and souvenirs.

Nightlife

The nightlife in Istanbul is slightly overrated and is restricted to only some parts of the city. For a Turk, nightlife means sitting by the riverside and enjoying a peaceful meal. However, there are a few good pubs and bars in the city. Weekend concerts are a highlight of the nightlife in Istanbul. Sheesha / Hukka is a speciality in Turkey and is commonly available in all pubs and restaurants. The shore-facing restaurants and nightclubs in Bosphorus have various local and international culinary delights and some amazing views of the shore to enjoy while devouring your food.
